Modification Proposed for Vienna Convetions on Consular Relations

A powerful, global group of honorary consuls convened in Monte Carlo, Monaco in February, 2009, to deliberate on proposed changes to the Vienna Conventions on Consular Relations.

This monumental undertaking has received many accolades since the meeting. Much approval will be needed. Modification of the Conventions will require no less than unanimous approval by all member states.

But with the sponsoring World Federation of Consuls board of directors reading like a 'Who's Who' of international business and business diplomacy, they may have more traction than anyone anticipated. Changes proposed have been published to much positive response. The next meeting of the Federation in Izmir, Turkey, 14-19 November 2009, will be telling as to the momentum of the proposal.
